Hey guys,
I finally managed to get onto and website and I have to say I'm impressed. You've done an awesome job so far and there's so much potential for more! This will be an excellent resource!
I'm looking forward to popping by the rose gardens and saying hi sometime, my chemo is knocking me around a bit more than last time tho but hopefully next week my count will be up so I can stop by on wednesday perhaps.
My condition has improved heaps so far, I'm back to eating solids...slowly....and swallowing is heaps easier.
For those that don't know I've had a serious recurrence of cancer of the neck throat and tongue. It was blocking up my airways a bit and made swallowing very difficult. I was admitted to hospital a few weeks ago and have since been discharged with BIG improvements so things are looking good so far.
Basically I have tumours near my thyroid, another big on the right side of my neck and traces of them down the back of my tongue and throat. I had surgery in Jan this year and then radiotherapy ending in May. By June I was healthy and back at UNI and stuff and everything seemed fine for a few months.
Around Novemeber I started having small pains in my neck. I got checked out but really should have had a scan I suppose, I thought it was just muscle pain and the doctors put it down to nerve damage from the radiotherapy. So they referred me to a physio and things went on from there. That was about the time I thought some exercise would benefit me. I'd been part of the wushu class back in 2001 when we were in Howick but kind of dropped out on and off. I'd been wanting to come back for a while and finally got to it! Unfortunately I wasn't particularly healthy at the time so couldn't do much apart from go back through the basic forms but it was good to be back and great to see how those still around had progressed! I have a lot of catching up to do when I get better...really wish I could get into it NOW!
Anyway I was only back for a few weeks cos my condition got really bad. I was having a lot of trouble breathing and pretty much couldn't swallow so I was losing a lot of weight. Went in for a checkup, coughed up some blood and was admitted right away. Over the next 2 weeks they had me on steroids and a lot of other medication to reduce the swelling and my condition improved dramatically. So apart from my chemo I'm not feeling too bad now
Basically because of how advanced the cancer is radio and surgery are no longer options so they put me on chemo, right away lucky for me. The chances of it curing Squamis Cell Carcinoma are next to nil I'm told but from what I've seen so far somethings happening. Even if it doesn't cure it it can be managed so I'm looking forward to getting better and coming back to catch up to you all at some stage. I hate watching you guys train and not being able to take part >:(
Thank you for your card and your support. It was nice to meet you newcomers and see those of you from ages ago! When I don't look like a drugged up spaceman I'll post you a photo...or maybe I'll do it anyway for the lols.
Take care and train hard!!
Josh
