OK, let's start this blog with a question:
And let's start the question with an explanation:
Like most of you, I have difficulty maintaining my energy throughout an entire form, particularly in the longer forms we're doing now. With the northern ones I'm out of breath and puffing towards the end, and with the southern ones my legs start getting weak, so my stances get higher and higher as I go on.
For the northern ones, I figure it's just a matter of increasing my fitness levels, but for the southern ones, my question (finally) is this:
Should I start forms as low as I can go and have my stances get higher throughout the form, or should I stick to a height that I know I can maintain throughout the form? If I do it the first way, then I'll be training to try and stay low as long as I can before my stances start rising; if I do it the second way, I'll be training to get my consistent height to come down. The end result is the same in both cases (starting low and staying low for the length of the form), but I'm wondering which way is the best route to it.
I'm guessing this is going to be a case where the answer depends on you personally, but opinions would be good...
